INOCA International believes that trust, independence and transparency are fundamental to the work we do. This page explains our organisational structure, how we are governed, how we approach funding and external relationships, and the principles that guide our work.

Who we are
INOCA International Limited is a patient-led, not-for-profit cardiovascular health organisation and a company limited by guarantee registered in Scotland. Company number: SC890202

INOCA International Limited is not a registered charity. Our company structure provides a formal legal framework through which we can manage funding, agreements and organisational responsibilities while still preserving the patient-led and not-for-profit principles upon which INOCA International was founded.

Our purpose remains unchanged: to improve understanding, recognition, diagnosis and care for people affected by INOCA and related conditions through education, collaboration, patient advocacy and engagement with healthcare professionals, researchers and other stakeholders around the world.

Volunteer-led organisation
INOCA International remains a 100% volunteer-led organisation.
The people who lead and support our work contribute their time, experience and expertise voluntarily. Members of our Medical Advisory Board are not paid for serving on the Board.

Where reasonable expenses are necessarily incurred in carrying out work on behalf of INOCA International, these may be reimbursed where appropriate and supported by suitable records. Professional suppliers and external service providers may also be paid for goods or services provided to INOCA International where required.

Governance and organisational oversight
INOCA International Limited operates within the governance requirements applicable to a company limited by guarantee registered in Scotland. Organisational decisions are taken with regard to our purpose, responsibilities, available resources and the interests of the patients and professional communities we serve. Our legal structure does not alter the independent, patient-led nature of INOCA International or give any external organisation control over our work.

Consejo Médico Asesor
INOCA International is supported by an international Medical Advisory Board comprising clinicians and experts with experience relevant to INOCA and associated cardiovascular conditions. Members are invited with consideration given to professional expertise, experience, international representation and commitment to improving knowledge and care in this field. The Medical Advisory Board provides expert input and guidance to support the quality and integrity of our educational and clinical information.

INOCA International may also seek advice or contributions from other appropriately qualified professionals where particular expertise is required.

Medical Advisory Board membership does not create an employment relationship with INOCA International and members receive no payment for serving on the Board.

Funding
As a not-for-profit organisation, INOCA International may receive financial or in-kind support from a range of sources. These may include grants, donations, educational or project funding, sponsorship, support for meetings or initiatives, and contributions from organisations that share an interest in improving cardiovascular health. Funding may be unrestricted or may be provided for a defined project or activity.

INOCA International does not regard financial support as giving a funder ownership of, or control over, our organisation, our patient voice, our clinical or educational content, or our independent decision-making.

Where appropriate, funding relationships and supporters are acknowledged publicly.

Independence
INOCA International works with organisations across healthcare, research, professional societies, the non-profit sector and industry where collaboration may help further our objectives. Collaboration does not constitute endorsement of a particular company, product, service or treatment unless this is expressly stated.

External organisations do not determine INOCA International’s clinical positions, patient perspectives or educational messaging simply because they provide funding, sponsorship or other support.

We aim to maintain clear boundaries between financial support and editorial, clinical and organisational decision-making.

Conflicts of interest
People contributing to INOCA International may have professional, academic, institutional, research or industry relationships outside their work with us. Where a potential conflict of interest is relevant to a particular activity or decision, we expect it to be identified and managed appropriately. Transparency about relevant relationships is an important part of protecting the independence and credibility of our work.

Financial management
INOCA International maintains financial records appropriate to its activities and legal responsibilities. Income and expenditure are recorded and supported by appropriate documentation. Where costs are initially paid personally on behalf of INOCA International, reimbursement is made against the relevant expenditure so that a clear financial record is maintained. Formal company accounts and other required information will be prepared and filed in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Historical financial information relating to earlier INOCA International activities, including the 2019 Meeting of Minds, remains available on this website as part of our organisational record.

Our website
The INOCA International website and much of the work involved in maintaining and developing it have historically benefited from substantial voluntary support.

Website, hosting, technology and other organisational costs may now be met from INOCA International funds as appropriate.

Our website exists primarily as an educational and informational resource for patients, healthcare professionals, researchers and others interested in INOCA.

Accuracy and correction
INOCA International aims to publish information that is responsible, evidence-informed and appropriately reviewed. Medical knowledge, research evidence and healthcare practice continue to evolve, and information may therefore require updating over time.

If we become aware that material published by INOCA International contains a significant error or could reasonably mislead readers, we will take appropriate steps to review, correct or update it.

Transparency
We believe transparency includes being clear about who we are, how we are structured, who supports our work and how our organisational relationships operate. We will continue to review and improve the information we make publicly available as INOCA International develops.

Our legal structure, funding arrangements and collaborations may evolve, but our commitment to remaining patient-led, independent and not-for-profit remains central to our work.
